Shenandoah County Fair

Thursday of Fair Week is a VFW sponsored Veterans Day at the Shenandoah County Fair. VFW and other like organizations pay the entrance fee for all veterans and hold a ceremony honoring those veterans.

Edinburg Ole’ Time Festival

The third weekend of every September marks a town wide festival that celebrates the history of area. The VFW is a major sponsor of the festival with a variety of food and events at the Post.

Memorial Day

Each year the VFW in cooperation with other veterans’ organizations holds a Memorial Day service at the post which honors all veterans who have passed away. Following the service, a free banquet is held at the Post.

Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy

These programs, Patriot’s Pen which is an written essay program, and Voice of Democracy, an audio-essay competition, that are designed to instill the proud legacy of patriotism in young people. These programs are designed to encourage students to appreciate values and ideals for which the veterans sacrificed so much.

Loyalty Day

Loyal Day is a day set aside for all Americans to demonstrate their loyalty to the United States and our flag. The VFW combines this day with a salute to our volunteers with a banquet held the first Saturday of May every year.

Children and Disabled vets Christmas celebrations

The Christmas season is a busy time at the Post. We hold a Christmas party for all county children; help to sponsor another party especially for disable children; hold a dinner for veterans and their family; and give donations to all the county’s fire departments, food banks, and many other charities.
